Planning Manager

This role will support the Development Director and Group Land & Planning Director to develop planning strategies to ensure that timely and appropriate planning permissions are delivered into the business in line with the company’s Land Delivery Programme and Group Land & Planning Parameters.

What will the role involve?

This role will support the Development Director and Group Land & Planning Director to develop planning strategies to ensure that timely and appropriate planning permissions are delivered into the business in line with the company’s Land Delivery Programme and Group Land & Planning Parameters.  

Key role responsibilities

  • To review and define strategies to best route for obtaining both outline / full / reserved matters planning permissions into the business in a timely manner and in line with the Land Delivery Programme
  • Review strategic land opportunities to advise of current planning status and timing/ delivery strategy to ensure delivery chances and prospects are optimised against 
  • Work with the Development Director to ensure that planning consent is obtained in a cost effective way on all potential land purchases
  • Accountable for managing planning permissions delivered to the business in line with the land delivery programme
  • Handle planning project workload in the role as project manager for the delivery of those sites, identifing and mitigating any problems discovered during the due diligence process, utilising experience and with minimal supervision including the submission and monitoring of planning applications in a dilligent and timely way
  • Support other project managers in the team, supporting planning strategies to ensure timely delviery of those sites.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with other areas within Cameron/Galliers to share information and best practise
  • Build and maintain a good professional network of contacts to ensure consultants are engaged and committed to timely delivery of project inputs and reports. 
  • Build, maintain and share up to date knowledge of updates to the planning system, including new and emerging policy, appeal precedent and local knowledge of competitor activity in the planning system in our defined operating area. 

What kind of person are we looking for?

  • Clear and robust understanding of land delivery programmes
  • Evaluate and share intelligence of the planning system and new and emerging policy and practices, having in depth knowledge of competitors, the patch and local authorities to assess and put forward viable strategic land opportunities
  • Understand the full planning process and procedure, as well as building strong relationships with planning authorities and officers to excute the best outcome for the company
  • Assess risk using various sources such as technical reports, layouts to determine viability of opportunities
  • Passion for our homes, products and developing our people
  • Develop graduates, providing support, sharing knowledge and addressing performance issues
  • Contribute as a Manager, role model the company values and use the Cameron Way to guide behaviours
